db is a men’s clothing brand whose design style is contemporary, quirky and stylish. The target market coordinates with the overall design concept is: men who are dominant, confident, and bold. The concept of the retail space originates and then evolves from the brand’s cornerstone product; the button-down shirt, featuring unique buttons. The intrigue with a button down shirt is that its structure is constructive, geometric, functional, sophisticated, and fashionable. It is these qualities that the store’s concept aims to create within the space. The key element in the project is a large horizontal tube-shape that one moves through and dominates the space. It will function to funnel users through a narrow and rigid pathway leading into the larger open space. This cylindrical path will then lead into the secondary space that takes on a vertical cylinder shape representing the standing collar of the shirt. This secondary space will contain seating, fitting rooms and hanging clothing displays. Suspended display units and wall mounted displays are consistent with the button concept interplay through the use of scale, motion and spacial gravity.
